Our Story

ICY Africa is part of International Christian Youthworks, a worldwide fellowship of youth workers and youth ministries working together to train, network and resource youth workers.

The Africa programme started because of the clear needs of young people living in Kibera slum Nairobi. The challenges they face range from poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, sexual exploitation, and being undervalued – the African youth charter defines youth as those between 15 and 35yrs.The programme clearly empowered those young people who did the course, developing leaders with a heart to bring change to their communities. Over the years there has been unexpected growth and success. Where the programme runs in schools the Head Teachers have reported big improvements in the culture and ethos of school life with a dramatic lowering of discipline problems.
